John Richard Schneider was born April 8, 1954, in Mt. Kisco, New York. His parents divorced when he was two. John began acting at the age of eight. He was in many plays in New York. He and his mother moved to Atlanta, Georgia, when he was fourteen. He got involved in the local theater and was in many local productions. He had a small part in Smokey and the Bandit (1977) starring Burt Reynolds.
His big break came when he won the role of Bo Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard" (1979) on CBS from 1979-1985. He auditioned for the role pretending he was a genuine country boy. He had a weeks growth of beard and held a beer can claiming he was from Snellville, Georgia. He later became a very successful country singer and had several hit songs including "I`ve Been Around Enough To Know" and "Country Girls." Trivia John Schneider is an expert model maker. He loves to make model cars! John Schneider and Melinda Naud met while participating as celebrity contestants at the "Special Olympics" in June 1979. From the moment that they met, John and Melinda were inseparable. They lived together from July 1979 until 1982 but even when they were separated continued to see one another secretly until 1983. Sadly, Melinda moved to Italy and never returned. His own version of the General Lee, a 1969 Dodge Charger painted to look like the car used in the show Dukes of Hazzard, was auctioned off on Ebay for $9,900,500. In 1998, John founded Canan Film Works with John Agoglia and Tony Fantozzi It has been said that John considers Tom [Wopat] his best friend and Tom has said he thinks of John like a brother John has a replica of "The General Lee" as his personal car. It isn`t exact to the one from The Dukes of Hazzard, because it`s doors are not welded shut. John has also made a huge impact as a country singer. Some of his biggest hits include: "It`s Now or Never" (1981, a remake of the Elvis Presley hit), "I`ve Been Around Enough to Know" (1984), "Country Girls" (1985), "What`s a Memory Like You (Doing in a Love Like This)" (1986), and "You`re The Last Thing I Needed Tonight" (1986). John is a co-founder of the Children`s Miracle Network charity organization. John has recorded 11 albums. John has restored many `General Lee` look-alike Dodge Chargers. John performed many of his own stunts on The Dukes of Hazzard,including driving John Schneider raises Alpacas. | ||
